3 Steps to Slay the ACT?

Let’s start with an equation (I do love math!)

2 books for less than $40 + practice = possibly thousands of $ in scholarships!

Now this is going to sound like I’m self-promoting, and I am! I wrote a book titled How to Slay the ACT: Proven Strategies to Conquer the College Entrance Exam. (the picture below links right to Amazon – LOL)

How to Slay the ACT

I literally wrote the book, so of course I think it can be a huge help to thousands of students. You can use the book on its own, but the most effective way to use the book is in conjunction with the amazing book that the ACT publishes (The Official ACT Prep Guide). (again the picture will link you right to Amazon!)

ACT Prep Guide

Step 1

Take the first practice test in The Official ACT Prep Guide. You will need to score the test when you are done, but literally all you need to do is to take the test. We won’t know what you need to work on until you know which questions you are getting wrong. Why I feel so strongly about The Official ACT Prep Guide is that the tests that are in this book are retired ACT tests. This means that you will be taking a “real” test before we figure out where you need help!

Step 2

Turn to page 12 in How to Slay the ACT and highlight or circle the number of every question you got wrong on the practice test.

Step 3

Review the sections of How to Slay the ACT where you were getting questions wrong. If you are short on time, start with the sections where you got the most questions incorrect. In each section I discuss the content related to what you got wrong, I review strategies that can help you on future questions, and I also “walk through” a lot of examples. There is also a list of where you can find similar practice problems in The Official ACT Prep Guide.

Hope this helps!

As a business owner mom with 4 sons between the ages of 7-14, I’m all about FREE! Where do I get the practice tests that I use with my students? I’ll let you in on all my secrets!

ACT

  1. http://www.crackact.com/
    It
isn’t the prettiest website that you will come across, but what it lacks in appearance, it more than makes up for with content! Too many tests to list, but let me tell you, it is worth a visit! I love this site!

  2. http://www.act.org/
    It
doesn’t get any better than get a free practice test from the makers of the test!

  3. Free ACT Practice Test 2015-2015 1267C
Past practice test that ACT published.

  4. ACT Practice Test 2011-2012 964E

  5. ACT Practice Test 2008-2009 0661C

  6. Free ACT Practice Test 2005-2006 0359F

  7. http://www.act.org/content/
    This
is online practice on the ACT website. It is a little different because the format is different, but they are still great questions for practice. You may not want to practice timing with these passages since it IS in a different format.

SAT

  1. https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org
    This
    is the SAT gold mine!

  2. https://www.khanacademy.org/
    This
is a wonderful site that can use your PSAT score or SAT score to help come up with a customized study plan!

You might be asking why there are 7 links for ACT prep, but only 2 for SAT. The College Board (the geniuses that make the SAT) are much more forth-coming with SAT Prep. The first link that goes to the College Board website has 8 released tests for FREE. AND several of the tests are recently given tests that were released. You really can’t get better than that! Thank you College Board!

How can this list help me?

Because these are standardized tests, that means that there is basically a recipe that the test makers follow when making the tests. They need to do that in order to compare the scores from different test dates. This means that the MORE you practice, the MORE confident you will become, and the MORE you will see your score increase! Of course, you need to understand what you are doing wrong for the questions that you are getting wrong. You might need some extra help to figure out why and that is when I would recommend signing up for a course or meeting with a tutor.

ACT/SAT SLAYER

I haven’t always been on a mission to help students SLAY the ACT and SAT. Before this, I was an Industrial Engineer turned high school math teacher, and it took a lot of inspiration & a truck-load of guts to get to where I am today.

I have worked with thousands of students over the past 14 years- of ALL ability levels.

It’s my passion and blessing to help students increase their confidence, get that goal score, and know that they have what it takes to ace the test.

I get it! As a mom of 4 sons, I truly understand that each child is different, and I work with each student to meet them where they're at and to support them to get to the next level!

In addition, I have taught ACT/SAT prep for 15 years and have attended several ACT/SAT workshops.

With over 15 years in the test prep industry

and working with students of all ability levels,

we have discovered the strategies, content, and mindset

needed to increase test scores as fast as possible.

What We Do Here.

01.

PRIVATE TUTORING

Private tutoring is the ultimate level of customization. Everything we work on is geared to meet your child at their current level, fill in any gaps or misunderstandings, and bring them to the next level.

02.

SMALL GROUP TUTORING

Small group tutoring is more cost-effective than private tutoring, and VERY OFTEN we get students who see similar increases in their test scores!

03.

ON-LINE CLASSES

A great option for self-starters needing some direction

OR

can also be used in conjunction with other prep!
