This Study Skills 101 class is geared towards helping high school students achieve success in the classroom. Some kids are just born to be great students. It is like they are born understanding how to study and when to ask for help. There are many other students, however, that are not blessed as “natural” students, and it is rare that study skills are taught in the class. There just isn’t time during the school year! As a teacher, I understand that there is so little classroom time and so much that needs to be taught. My goal is that this will help fill the gap for students that might struggle with how to study.
Time Management. We will discuss everything from looking at an overview of all of high school all the way down to how to make study time as productive as possible.
Learning in class. We will learn about different types of lectures and how to take notes in class to help with understanding.
How to read a textbook. There is so much to learn from a textbook, but as a student, you are never really taught how to use all the information.
Taking a test. We will cover testing taking strategies, test anxiety, and how to memorize material. We will also briefly cover the standardized testing (PSAT, SAT, and ACT).
Class will be from 5-7 PM.
